New York Attractions

As far as tourism is concerned, there is nowhere in the world that offers quite the range of things to see and do as you get with the sheer volume of New York attractions that are waiting for you in the Big Apple. Almost everywhere you go there is something of interest to see, and even if you had a whole year to spend exploring the city, the chances are that you wouldn’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the different New York attractions that are on offer for visitors to enjoy.

First time visitors will want to pack in as many of the main New York attractions as they can. A trip to the top of the Empire State Building to see the incredible views from the Observation deck is essential, as is a walk around the lake in Central Park where you just might see a celebrity out jogging. Although you might think of it as one of the most important New York attractions, a day trip to the Statue of Liberty is something that you may want to leave off the itinerary. It will take almost half a day out of your visit, and although the museum is fascinating, the best views of the statue itself are available on the ferry rather than the island itself.

One thing that no visitor to New York should miss out on is the atmosphere in neon lit Times Square at midnight. As people leave the bars and clubs, the area gets very busy, and is a memorable place to people watch for a couple of hours.

If you have the time, and can get tickets to one, a Broadway show is one of the best New York attractions. Depending on the show that you see, you will enjoy a fantastic night of music and drama that is hard to beat. Popular shows are tough to get into in the evenings, but there are always Matinee shows that tend to be more available, and there are always ticket scalpers around Times Square where you can get a seat for even the busiest show if you are willing to pay for your ticket.

There are dozens of museums in New York including the Guggenheim and Museum of Modern Art close to Central Park, where you can also visit the zoo. Other highlights include the Chrysler Building, and no visit to the city is complete without spending at least half a day shopping on Fifth Avenue in the large stores like FAO Schwartz and Bloomingdales.
